Bolt's fellow Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade set the fastest time of 9.90 seconds in the second of three semi-finals.
Dasaolu finished third with 9.97 but made it through as a fastest loser.
100m finalists
- Nickel Ashmeade (Jam): 9.90
- Usain Bolt (Jam): 9.92
- Mike Rodgers (USA): 9.93
- Kemar Bailey-Cole (Jam): 9.93
- Justin Gatlin (USA): 9.94
- Nesta Carter (Jam): 9.97

Bolt made a sluggish start in the last semi-final but won in 9.92 and will remain a strong favourite for the showpiece final in Moscow at 18:50 BST.
"I am just relieved after the shocker I had yesterday," said Dasaolu, who only just qualified for the semi-finals after easing off in his heat.
Dasaolu's fellow Britons Dwain Chambers and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey failed to qualify.
"I went out and prepared the best I could and I thought my body could cope," said Chambers after clocking 10.15.
"I really wanted to make the final but it wasn't meant to be. I am not happy. I am taking part in the relay so I will take part in that and then I will see."
Aikines-Aryeetey could only manage a time of 10.34, and said: "I am speechless, that is not what I am about. I am better than that.
"It's disappointing, you work hard to build up to this, it is the World Championships, so I will give no excuses but I will work with my coach and improve.
"I felt great before the race, I started well, but you didn't see the real Harry today."
