Sarah Teather is to step down as an MP at the next election, senior Liberal Democrat sources have told the BBC.

Ms Teather was first elected in 2003 in Brent East, north-west London, at the age of 29 - making her the youngest MP in Britain.

She remained in the seat until the 2010 election when she was re-elected to the new seat of Brent Central.

She served as education minister in the coalition government before returning to the backbenches in September 2012.
