HA NOI (VNS)– A woman was caught at Noi Bai International Airport attempting to smuggle animal products, alleged to be rhino horn, into Viet Nam.

Nguyen Thi Nhan, age 26, was stopped after arriving on a flight from Doha, Qatar on May 30, according to airport customs officers.

While the officers were completing her entry procedure, Nhan showed suspicious signs and was informed she would have her luggage searched.

At that moment, she took three pieces of animal horn out of her coat and told the customs officers they were rhino horn. She did not declare the goods and failed to produce import certificates.

The pieces were sent yesterday to the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs for tests to determine their origin. -- VNS
