More than 100 scientists and natural resource, environment andagriculture managers on June 5 gathered in the central Khanh Hoaprovince for a symposium on development of breeding swallows inVietnam.

According to scientists, Vietnamboasts huge potential for breeding swallows thanks to available naturalgeographical condition such as a long coastal line, hills, cliff andlagoons.

There are 219 natural nesting sites insuch central coastal provinces as Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen andQuang Nam , harvesting about 5,000 kg of bird nest a year.

Besides,there are about 2,000 swallow houses with a total annual output of1,320 kg of bird nest in central and southern regions

Domesticbreeding is developing spontaneously without planning and orientation,thus posing risks for swallow farmers and impacts on the development ofother sectors. In addition, the harsher natural condition anddeforestation are creating critical effects on swallows’ livingenvironment.

The event was a forum for participantsto present their reports and research on raising swallows which is stillnew in Vietnam such as building swallow houses and bird flupreventative measures on domestic swallows.-VNA
