Remembrance Day poppiesA £10m programme of cultural events will take place over four years

Wreath-laying in Glasgow and Mons, Belgium, and a candle-lit vigil at Westminster Abbey will mark the centenary of the start of World War I, the culture secretary has announced.

Four years of "acts of remembrance" will follow, Maria Miller said.

The dead will be remembered at Glasgow's Cenotaph and a military cemetery in Mon on 4 August 2014.

Westminster Abbey's vigil will end at 2300 - the moment war was declared.
