World 400m hurdle champion Dai Greene aims to win his first race of the year at this weekend's British Championships in Birmingham.

The 27-year-old is the only reigning world or Olympic champion to be in action at Alexander Stadium.

London 2012 gold medallists Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford will not be competing.

Greene returns to the same track where, two weeks ago, he suffered his first defeat by a fellow Briton since 2008.

He was beaten by Rhys Williams in finishing fifth at the Diamond League meeting.

That loss followed defeat the previous weekend by unheralded German Silvio Schirrmeister at the European Team Championships in Gateshead.

Greene, who finished fourth at London 2012, said: "I would like to go out and show what happened in Birmingham and what happened the week before wasn't the usual me.

"Hopefully it's back to business as usual and I can push on again in the next few weeks."

6 June: Diamond League (Rome): Fifth

22 June: European Athletics Team Championships (Gateshead): Second

30 June: Grand Prix (Birmingham): Fifth

Greene, who had a double hernia operation in March and was hampered by a virus last time out in Birmingham, will compete in the heats on Friday.

The British Championships double as the trials for the World Championships, which take place from 10-18 August, and even though defending champion Greene has a wildcard entry for Moscow as champion, he is looking to find some form.

"I am not really worried. I've trained really well. I'm confident [form] will come in the next few weeks in the build-up to Moscow. I am expecting myself to be in good shape."

Concerns over Ennis-Hill's build-up to Moscow continue to grow, but the heptathlete's coach Toni Minichiello says he is confident she will be fit to compete.

She is next scheduled to feature in the 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco next week.

Rutherford has also pulled out of the British Championships with a hamstring injury he suffered competing in Paris last weekend, while the event was never on Mo Farah's schedule as he prepares for both the 5,000m and 10,000m in Moscow.
