Usain Bolt led Jamaica to victory in the sprint relay in Moscow to take his tally of World Championship gold medals to a record-equalling eight.

Bolt led his team home in 37.36 seconds with the United States second and Great Britain third in 37.80.

But there was an anxious wait before Britain's medal was confirmed after doubts were raised about the legality of their second changeover.

The medal meant Britain ended the championships with six medals.

The 26-year-old Bolt leaves the Russian capital with three golds after winning the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay.

He joins Americans Michael Johnson, Allyson Felix and Carl Lewis with eight world championship golds.

The Jamaican, who has also won two silver medals, is now tied with Felix and Lewis as of the most decorated athlete of all time in World Championships with 10 medals.

His accomplishments in these championships defy belief. On Saturday, the 100m and 200m world record holder became the first man to win five successive 200m titles at world championships and Olympics and secured his fourth sprint double in five years.

Jamaica also won the women's 4x100m relay to give Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce her third gold medal of the competition.

Carrie Russell, Kerron Stewart, Schillonie Calvert and Fraser-Pryce won in a championship record 41.29 seconds.

Britain were second at the final changeover but Hayley Jones was overhauled by France and the United States and finished fourth.

In other finals on the final day, France's Teddy Tamgho jumped 18.04m - the third longest jump of all time - to take gold in a high-quality triple jump competition.

The Frenchman could now set his sights on Jonathan Edwards's 1995 world record of 18.29m later in the season.

Kenya secured two golds with Asbel Kiprop retaining his 1500m crown and Kenya's Eunice Sum surging through to win the women's 800m title, while Germany's Christina Obergfoll won javelin gold.
