The US released a statement on Sunday welcoming the inauguration of Hassan Rouhani
Iran's new President, Hassan Rouhani, has vowed that his government will be accountable and act transparently.
At the first news conference since his inauguration, Mr Rouhani said he would keep his promise to make Iranians aware of both his successes and failures.
Without the people's support, the government would "have no chance of meeting its long-term goals", he added.
Mr Rouhani inherits economic problems, possible food shortages, and US new sanctions over its nuclear programme.
On Sunday, the White House welcomed the arrival of Mr Rouhani, but made no mention of any concessions.
"Should this new government choose to engage substantively and seriously to meet its international obligations and find a peaceful solution to this issue, it will find a willing partner in the United States," it said.
It came after Mr Rouhani presented a new cabinet dominated by technocrats who had previously served under a moderate former president, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
