Four charged over £1.3m bank heist

Four men arrested in connection with the theft of £1.3m from Barclays Bank will appear in court later.


The money was transferred by computer from the branch in Swiss Cottage in north London in April, a Met Police spokesman said.


Searches have been carried out at addresses across London where property including cash, jewellery, drugs and credit cards has been seized.


The men will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later.


Michael Victor Harper, 26, an estate agent from Hampstead, north west London and Lewis James Murphy, 29, from Chelsea, central London, have been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.


Darius Bolder, 34, from Chelsea, central London, has been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and conspiracy to steal while Tony Colston-Hayter, 47, from Marylebone, central London, faces a charge of conspiracy to steal.


A further four men arrested in connection with the theft at Barclays have been released on bail.


A spokesman for Barclays Bank said it had been able to recover a "significant amount" of the stolen money and added that no customers had suffered financial loss as a result of the theft.
