A girl who claims she was "regularly" raped by Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell said "silly things" when reporting the attacks to police, a court has heard.

Mr Le Vell, 48, who is on trial under his real name Michael Turner, denies 12 charges, including five of rape.

Defending, Alisdair Williamson accused the girl of telling "a little lie" when speaking to an officer about one rape.

The offences were allegedly committed between 2001 and 2010.

Mr Le Vell, of Hale, Greater Manchester, also faces three counts of indecent assault, two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and two of sexual activity with a child.

The victim, who was giving evidence behind a screen at Manchester Crown Court, had previously claimed that she told nobody else about what happened during one attack.

Cross-examining, Mr Williamson said that was untrue and she had "told lots of girls" about it.

The girl then said she had spoken to "two friends because they saw me crying".

Mr Williamson said the police had come to see the girl because she "told people and you told the officer a little lie".

"You told him you had not told the girls, they had just guessed," he said.

The girl denied lying and added that a subsequent claim by Mr Williamson that she had put specific details of the times of a rape into her account to make it "more convincing" was also untrue.

"It didn't happen," Mr Williamson said but the girl replied "it did".

The case continues.
